Mostly good, some delays

I've used LocalBitcoins a few times to buy and sell. The P2P marketplace works well for finding different payment methods. This last time, I sold some Bitcoin for cash. The buyer confirmed quickly, but the escrow release seemed to take a bit longer than I expected, maybe 20 minutes after they marked payment. Value is good since you can often get better rates than a direct exchange. Customer service isn't super fast if you need them, but the platform itself is fairly robust. It's a solid option, just be prepared for slight variations in transaction times.

Smooth buying experience

I used LocalBitcoins to buy some Bitcoin with a bank transfer last month. The ordering process was straightforward; I found a seller with a good reputation and initiated the trade. The escrow service gave me peace of mind. Delivery of the Bitcoin to my wallet took about an hour after the bank transfer cleared, which was pretty quick. Customer support wasn't needed, but the interface was clear enough that I didn't run into any issues. Overall, it was a reliable platform for a first-time purchase.

Got my crypto, felt safe

So, I needed to get some Bitcoin and decided to try LocalBitcoins. It was kinda cool because you deal with actual people. Found someone doing bank transfers, which was handy. The whole escrow thing made me feel a lot safer, like my money wasn't just floating around. The BTC showed up in my wallet, no drama. It felt like a pretty secure way to trade, definitely better than some other sketchy sites I've heard about.

hey, is LocalBitcoins still even around? thought I heard something about them shutting down or something a while back.

S Sophie W. 1 month ago
Yeah, they did shut down last year. You're thinking of the right thing. Too bad, it was pretty good for a while.

C Colin G. 1 month ago
Nah, they closed up shop. You gotta look for alternatives now, like Paxful or something similar.

thinking about using LocalBitcoins but not sure about identity verification. is it a super strict process or pretty chill?

S Steve 1 month ago
It got pretty strict towards the end, like needing ID and proof of address. Not chill at all, it became more like a regular exchange.

Initially, you could do small trades without much hassle, but later on, for higher limits or certain payment methods, they definitely wanted your full KYC details. Like uploading your passport and stuff.

If I wanted to sell Bitcoin for cash, how did that work on LocalBitcoins? Did you have to meet people in person?

M Megan 1 month ago
You could definitely meet people in person, which was one of its big draws. Or you could do bank transfers. You'd post an ad saying you wanted to sell for cash, agree on a spot, and then release the BTC once you got the money.

Yeah, I've done cash trades before. You'd find a local seller/buyer, message them, agree on a safe public place to meet, and then do the exchange. The escrow held your coins until you confirmed you received the cash. It was pretty cool for 'local' trading.

Were there any specific times of the year where LocalBitcoins would have special deals or lower fees?

C Cody 1 month ago
Not really 'Black Friday' style deals you'd expect. Sometimes they'd do promotions around Bitcoin halving events, or when the market was going crazy they might try to attract more users with temporary fee waivers. It wasn't very regular though.

I think I saw some zero-fee promotions occasionally, usually tied to trying out a new payment method or something like that. Not seasonal like regular shopping deals though.

How long did it usually take for a transaction to complete? Like from sending money to getting the bitcoin in my wallet.

D Daisy H. 2 months ago
It varied a lot. If you were doing a bank transfer, it could be a few hours or even a day depending on bank times. If it was something like instant cash app, it could be super fast once the seller released the coins.

Depends on the payment method and the trader. Some traders were super quick, like within 15-30 minutes for online payments. Cash in person was instant, of course, once you met up and did the exchange.

What kind of fees were typical for trading on this platform? Was it a flat rate or did it depend on the amount?

A Andre Patel 2 months ago
As a buyer, you usually didn't pay fees. The seller would, like 1% of the trade value for ads they posted, or for using their wallet and services. It wasn't too bad.

I remember sellers paid a small fee, but as a buyer, it felt free. There were sometimes promos where they'd waive those fees though, which was cool.

I'm looking to buy some BTC but worried about getting scammed. how safe is the escrow system on LocalBitcoins, really?

C Cleo E. 2 months ago
The escrow itself was pretty good, it held the coins until both sides confirmed. So that part was safe.

G Gwen 2 months ago
It was as safe as the people using it, honestly. Escrow was solid, but you still had to watch out for dodgy traders. Always check their reputation scores and history.

i'm weighing my options for P2P trading. how did LocalBitcoins stack up against Paxful or Binance P2P, from people's experience?

L Laura 2 months ago
LocalBitcoins felt a bit older and clunkier compared to Binance P2P, which has way more users and payment options now. Paxful was similar, but I always found more ads on LocalBitcoins back then, at least for my local currency.

LocalBitcoins used to be the OG, but I think Paxful and Binance P2P definitely took over. They have more modern interfaces and often better liquidity now. LocalBitcoins was good for its time, but others kinda surpassed it.
